Boca's "Original Downtown" Green Market Now Sets Up on North Federal Highway

October 15, 2026

At noon on Sunday, September 27, a firefighter named Johnny Schroeder stood in the parking lot of 5th Avenue Shops and handed the recipient a piece of steel recovered from the World Trade Center. A custom 2018 Ram 1500 covered in images of 9/11 first responders was parked nearby. The Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance banner was on display, and a 50/50 raffle at 10, 11 and noon raised money for Changing Lives and Tri-County Rescue.

That ceremony opened the 2026-27 season of the Boca Green Market. The market's website calls it "The City's Original Downtown Green Market." This season it runs every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through May 2, 2027, at 5th Avenue Shops on North Federal Highway, well north of the Mizner Park and Royal Palm Place blocks most people mean by "downtown."

The new address follows a pattern that goes back nearly a decade. Boca's weekend markets have kept moving to the places with the most free parking. Downtown, where parking is metered and limited, is now served by a market that meets one Thursday night a month.

Twenty-Two Years at Royal Palm Place, Then a Parking Lot

For most of its life, the Boca Raton GreenMarket was a Saturday event at Royal Palm Place, the shopping strip on Southeast Mizner Boulevard. It left in December 2018 after a 22-year run. The Coastal Star gave the reason plainly: "Growing resentment over scarce parking downtown led to the move."

The Coastal Star quoted Assistant City Manager Mike Woika, who said some nearby businesses felt the market "really does kind of mess up their parking on Saturdays." He added that the lot north of City Hall had "plenty of room, plenty of parking." The market's founder and manager was quoted in the same story: "It's the parking that makes the difference." At the time it had more than 40 vendors.

Since then, the market has moved through these dates and locations:

  1. Through 2018: Saturdays at Royal Palm Place, for 22 years.
  2. December 2018: Saturdays in the lot north of City Hall, 201 W. Palmetto Park Road.
  3. 2019-20 season: The city's calendar called it the GreenMarket's 23rd year, with 40-plus vendors. Saturdays at City Hall were scheduled from November 2, 2019, through May 9, 2020.
  4. March 2020: The Boca Raton Tribune listed "Every Saturday, The Green Market" among the events the city canceled to limit the spread of COVID-19.
  5. Spring 2025: A Sunday market came back to Royal Palm Place's clocktower after a four-year break, as part of the center's 60th anniversary. It ran 8 a.m. to noon through March 30.
  6. 2025-26 season: The "Downtown Boca Green Market," organized by Boca Green Market, ran Sundays from October 5, 2025, to May 3, 2026, at 508 Via De Palmas by the clocktower.
  7. 2026-27 season: Sundays at 5th Avenue Shops, September 27 through May 2, 2027.

The public record leaves two gaps. None of the reporting explains why the market left Royal Palm Place this year. None of it documents a link between the operator behind today's Boca Green Market and the Saturday GreenMarket that ran at City Hall, so "original" is the market's own description. The Palm Beach Post's fall market guide, published October 1, 2026, uses the same label. It lists no Saturday market at City Hall.

The new site fits the pattern. The season's press release states that "Admission and parking are free." The Post's guide lists "Plenty of free parking on site."

Two Sunday Markets, Same Hours

The bigger change for anyone planning a Sunday is that the Green Market is no longer Boca's only Sunday market. The Boca Farmers Market launched in April 2025 at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus, 4950 Communication Avenue, in Parking Lot H. It runs every Sunday of the year from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the same hours as the Green Market.

Both markets advertise free parking. Beyond that, they are built around different things.

Boca Green Market Boca Farmers Market

Extras Live music, lawn games, a bounce house on the last Sunday of each month Yoga, Pilates, face painting and dance classes, announced weekly on Instagram
Parking Free on site Lot H, with thousands of spaces on site

The vendor counts differ by source, so the table shows both figures for each market. On either count, the BRiC market is the larger of the two and stays open through summer. The Green Market's list leans toward handmade goods and gifts. Its 2026 press release also mentions gourmet treats, beverages and fairy hair. The Farmers Market's site puts pasture-raised eggs, raw dairy, grass-fed beef and jerky, and cold-pressed juices near the top of its list. The Post also notes that the BRiC location has plenty of shade.

Both are dog friendly, according to the Post. Neither is downtown. Ten years ago, Boca's best-known market drew people to Mizner Boulevard on Saturday mornings. Both of today's Sunday markets set up on large free lots outside the downtown core.

Downtown Now Gets a Market on Thursday Nights

Downtown's market is now run by the city, in the evening, once a month. The Night Market sets up at Sanborn Square, 72 N. Federal Highway, from 6 to 9 p.m. on select Thursdays. The city's calendar lists October 1, November 5 and December 10, 2026, with the December date planned as a holiday edition. The October 1 market was canceled for bad weather, so November 5 will be the first Night Market of the fall.

Parking is the issue the Green Market moved away from, and here it hasn't changed. The Post's guide lists "limited metered parking nearby," plus the Mizner Park garages and AirGarage. It also points to BocaConnect, the city's free shuttle, as a way to get to the square. The city has offered the same fix before. When the GreenMarket left Royal Palm Place in 2018, the Coastal Star noted that downtown residents who used to walk to the market could ride the free Round the Town electric shuttles to City Hall. The Post lists the Night Market as not dog friendly.

Midtown has a weekly evening market of its own. The Shops at Boca Center holds a Friday Night Artisan Market from 5 to 10 p.m. in the courtyard between Rocco's Tacos and Tap 42. Vendor applications go through Florida Fresh Markets. Unlike the Sunday markets, it is built around artisan goods rather than produce.

The Fall Calendar Through December

Boca's markets now meet on three different days in three parts of the city. Here are the remaining dates from now through the holidays:

  • Every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Boca Green Market at 5th Avenue Shops. October 25 is the next bounce-house Sunday, since that falls on the last Sunday of each month.
  • Every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Boca Farmers Market at BRiC, Lot H, which keeps running after the Green Market's season ends in May.
  • Fridays, 5 to 10 p.m.: Artisan Market at Boca Center on October 16, 23 and 30; November 6, 13 and 20; and December 4, 11 and 18, per the center's posted schedule.
  • Thursday, November 5, and Thursday, December 10, 6 to 9 p.m.: Night Market at Sanborn Square.

The Boca Center schedule skips November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. Market organizers sometimes post weekly updates on their own channels. The Green Market posts on bocagreenmarket.com, and the Farmers Market announces its weekly classes on Instagram.

This Sunday, October 11, both Sunday markets open at 9 a.m., one on North Federal Highway and one at BRiC. The city's next downtown market is the Night Market at Sanborn Square on Thursday, November 5.
